Merry Bio

Fast Facts:
This is just a start I don't have all of my information yet as I have lost my notes.
Merry is unfortunately one of the more overlooked hobbits especially in the movies this is rather sad as he is an interesting and complex character. In the movies he was portrayed by brittish actor Dominic Monaghan and a 12 year old boy (dom's body double).

My favorite Merry quote from the book: "What in the Shire is that?!"
Dom's favorite Merry quote from the movie: "Right! Buckleberry ferry follow me!"

Full Name: Merriadoc Bradybuck of Buckland born in 1382

He is the cousin of Frodo (Frodo's mum was a Brandybuck and Frodo spent most of his childhood in Buckland) and Pippin (his best friend and partner in crime)

Parents: Mother Esmerelda Took born 1336
Father Saradoc "Scattergold" Brandybuck
(1340-1432)

Wife: Estella Bolger born 1385 (she is one of the guests at Bilbo's Birthday party!)
It is not known how many children Merry had, but he did have a son to whom he left Buckland hall when he and Pippin left the shire in 1484 of the Shire Reckoning to see King Eomer (of Rohan) who had summoned Merry. They then proceeded to Gondor where they lived out the rest of their lives and were buried in Rath Dinen.

In 1432 Merry became the master of Buckland

Merry was a part of the Army of Rohan and helped Eowyn to kill the Witch King

King Eomer often reffered to Merry often as holbytla which means hole builder. Hobbit is derived from this word.

Merry is a decendant of Gordenhad Oldbuck the founder of Buckland.

He actually discovered that Frodo had the ring of power one year before Bilbo's Birthday party.

In the movie Frodo is the one who solves the riddle of "Speak friend and enter" in reallity Merry solved this riddle.

His name was originally Kalimac, Kali means jolly, gay

Tolkien once refered to Merry as the gayest hobbit of them all, of course by this he meant the happiest because in his day gay did not mean what it does now.

After returning from his great adventure with the fellowship Merry wrote several books including:
"Herblore of the Shire"
"Reckoning of the Years"
"Old Worlds and Names in the Shire"
and some works on Eriador and the History of Rohan

Merry and Pip, always a blast with the two of them!
